Royal Enfield Classic 350 vs Jawa 42 FJ Specifications Comparison:

Jawa Motorcycles recently launched the 42 FJ in India with several improvements over the standard version, including a larger 334cc engine and new colour schemes. The motorcycle starts at Rs 1.99 lakh and competes with the recently updated Royal Enfield Classic 350, which starts at a similar price. Given that both models are top contenders in the 350cc segment, we will compare them on paper to determine which one is the better choice.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 vs Jawa 42 FJ: Engine

The Classic 350 is powered by a 349.34cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine and a 5-speed gearbox. Its power and torque are 20.2bhp and 27Nm respectively. On the other hand, the Jawa 42 FJ is powered by a 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 28.7bhp and 29.62Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. In this segment, the Jawa motorcycle outshines its rivals with its six-speed gearbox and higher power and torque output.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 vs Jawa 42 FJ: Hardware

The suspension system of the Royal Enfield motorcycle consists of twin shock absorbers with 6-level preload adjustment at the rear and 41 mm telescopic forks at the front. The high-spec models come with dual-channel ABS and disc brakes at both ends. In contrast, the lower-spec models come with a disc-drum combination and single-channel ABS. The motorcycle has spoked wheels at the front and rear, measuring 19 inches and 18 inches respectively. However, only some models come with alloy wheels.

On the other hand, the Jawa bike comes with a rear shock absorber with 5-level preload adjustment and telescopic front forks. For braking, it comes with a 320 mm disc brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. The bike also comes with a choice of wire spoke or alloy wheels, covered with rubber tyres.

The updated Classic 350 is available in seven colours (Madras Red, Commando Sand, Jodhpur Blue, Emerald Green, Medallion Bronze, Sand Grey and Stealth Black) across five different variants (Heritage, Heritage Premium, Signals, Dark and Emerald). It features a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, large mudguards, and full-LED lighting for the headlight, taillight and turn indicators. In terms of features, the bike comes with a gear indicator, adjustable brake and clutch levers, and a USB-C charging socket.

In comparison, the new Jawa 42 gets split grips, a one-piece handlebar, a thinner fuel tank (with a brushed aluminum finish) and ‘Jawa’ decals. As for the colours, there are multiple options such as Cosmo Matte Blue, Mystique Green, Deep Matte Black and Deep Matte Black with Red Accents.

The Jawa 42 FJ is also a feature-rich motorcycle with equipment like full LED lighting, offset speedometer, dual-channel ABS, USB charging port and digital instrument cluster (with Bluetooth connectivity).

The wheelbase of the 42 FJ (1440mm) is slightly longer than the Classic 350 (1390mm). It also has a longer seat (805mm) compared to the Royal Enfield motorcycle (790mm). The former has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres, while the latter has 13 litres.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 vs Jawa 42 FJ: Prices

The entry-level spoke wheel version of the Jawa 42 FJ is priced at Rs 1.99 lakh while the top alloy wheel version is priced at Rs 2.2 lakh (both ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 is priced between Rs 1.99 lakh and Rs 2.3 lakh (ex-showroom).
