Hyundai and GM collaborate on vehicle, powertrain and

Hyundai Motor Company and General Motors have partnered to explore the possibility of developing vehicles, internal combustion engines and clean energy solutions such as electric and hydrogen powertrains. Under the agreement, global OEMs may also consider sourcing battery raw materials, among other things. “The collaboration between the two companies has the potential to improve the efficiency of vehicle development by increasing scale and supporting disciplined capital allocation,” said Mary Barra, chairman and CEO of GM, speaking about the partnership. She also added: “GM and Hyundai have complementary strengths and excellent teams. Our goal is to unleash the scale and creativity of both companies to deliver more competitive vehicles to customers faster and more efficiently.”

Euisun Chung, Executive Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, also shared his thoughts on the partnership, saying, “This collaboration will enable Hyundai and GM to evaluate opportunities to enhance competitiveness in key markets and vehicle segments, and to improve cost efficiencies and deliver greater customer value through combined expertise and innovative technologies.”

Hyundai currently operates in India with a large product portfolio, while General Motors ceased its operations in India in 2017.

Modern India Updates

Hyundai recently launched the Alcazar Facelift in India at a starting price of Rs 14.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is available in four variants (Executive, Prestige, Platinum and Signature) in eight colours (Abyss Black Pearl, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Ranger Khaki, Robust Emerald Pearl, Robust Emerald Matte, Starry Night, Titan Grey Matte and Atlas White with Abyss Black Roof). It gets revised headlamps, a new grille, new alloy wheels, a Creta-like dashboard, slimmer AC vents and a redesigned temperature control panel.

Mechanically, the SUV is available with two engine options: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The former produces 157.8 hp and 253 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 114.4 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch and a six-speed automatic.
