JSW MG Motor India has broken the EV price barrier by launching the Windsor EV at Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. This is lower than the price of the Indian EV champion, the Tata Nexon.EV. However, MG was able to price the Windsor EV so competitively because they leased the batteries for the Windsor. Here are more details.
How much do you actually pay?
So, the price is indeed attractive, however, the price of the Windsor EV does not include the price of the battery. This means that when you buy a Windsor EV, you only own the car and not the battery. JSW MG Motor India will be offering a Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan. Under BaaS, customers will need to pay Rs 3.5 per kilometre of usage. So, the more you use the car, the more you will end up paying. On the other hand, for the first owners, the battery is protected by an unlimited warranty and since you do not own the battery, JSW MG Motor India will take care of the battery if anything goes wrong. A win-win? From a consumer’s perspective, it does look like a win-win.
Other Benefits
The biggest benefit that JSW MG Motor India offers for the Windsor EV is 1 year of free charging on the MG network. This means the running cost for at least a year is just Rs 3.5 per km.
The 3-3-3 package offers 3 years unlimited mileage warranty, 3 years roadside assistance and ₹0 labour cost for first 3 services. Moreover, if you plan to sell the car, MG offers a buyback guarantee of 60% of the value even after 3 years.
Design and features of Windsor electric vehicles
A highlight of Windsor is its new “AeroGlide design” language. The design combines aerodynamics with MG’s iconic craftsmanship, balancing form and function. The car has the largest wheelbase in its class and is equipped with 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, balancing stability and fashion.

Other amenities include a panoramic sunroof, Aero-Lounge rear seats that recline 135 degrees, power-adjustable front seats, a power tailgate, wireless phone charging, and advanced connected car technology.
The Windsor EV is available in 4 colors, namely Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige and Turquoise Green. It will be available in three variants – Excite, Exclusive and Essence.
Windsor Electric Vehicle Performance and competition
The Windsor EV is equipped with a 37.9kWh battery and a single motor, which gives it a range of up to 331 km on a full charge. The motor produces 136 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The car also comes with multiple driving modes – Eco, Eco+, Normal and Sport. The price of the Windsor EV has created competition. However, its price is similar to that of the Tata Nexon.EV and the Tata Punch.EV. In terms of size, it should be comparable to its sibling, the MG ZS EV, however, its price is much lower than that of the ZS EV.
