Soutchik’s 300 GTC Roadster Coachbuilt Special is a modern

  • The 300 GTC Roadster pays homage to the classic Mercedes, but it’s not an exact replica of it.
  • Although the company is reluctant to reveal details, it is believed that the car is based on the SL and will feature a modern interior.
  • Soutchick will produce just 15 of them, but has not yet revealed the price.

Coachbuilding is making a comeback, with Saoutchik, a French company that went bankrupt in 1955, having been reborn to create a modern version of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. The company has named it the 300 GTC Roadster, with production capped at 15 examples.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9 -9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd(“6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657”); } });

The company has yet to confirm very few details about the car, but it is believed to be based on the Mercedes-Benz SL, with a completely bespoke exterior and a revised interior. Whether it is a proper reinterpretation of the 300 SL is up for debate, but there is no doubt it will be something of a sight to behold once the first examples start hitting the roads.

At the front of the car you can see round headlights and a grille that is rather plain by modern standards. Saoutchik’s intricate logo is emblazoned on a large badge in the center of the grille, while the car also features two large air intakes with black mesh. Much like the car that inspired it, the front wheel arches are particularly bulging.

Many classic Mercedes elements can be seen on the side of the car. For example, there are large chrome air vents behind the front wheels and a set of huge 22-inch chrome wheels. The coachbuilder also completely remodeled the rear half of the car, including new arches, a custom tailgate, a unique silver diffuser and exquisite LED taillights.

An image showing the car’s interior shows a mishmash of parts from recent Mercedes-Benz models, but the cabin is clearly different from the existing SL, suggesting the 300 GTC Roadster could be based on an older model.

It’s unclear what will power the car, but we doubt potential customers will be disappointed if they find out there’s anything other than AMG’s mighty 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood.

With only a handful of detailed renderings of the car released, it may be a while before we see Saoutchik’s actual car. Pricing remains a mystery.
