Daily Pick: 1957 Ford Custom 300 Sedan

Although not common The 1957 Ford models were just as popular as their GM competitors of the same year, and they shared many of the same design elements. The glorious 1950s were a time of bright colors, prominent tail fins, chrome trim, and wide white-rimmed tires. We love seeing it all!

Today’s pick is a 1957 Ford Custom 300 Sedan, for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Canon City, Colorado. (Click on the link to view the listing)

“Very shiny, lots of chrome,” the listing begins. “If the car needs lubricating, oiling, tightening or replacing anything, we’ll get it done. Regular maintenance, including oil changes.”

Ford used the “Custom” nameplate on a variety of cars between 1949 and 1981. Starting in 1957, the Custom and Custom 300 were grouped below the Fairlane and Fairlane 500: The Custom was an entry-level model, marketed primarily to fleets. The 300 model was a cut above it. Price-wise, it was positioned as a value-oriented product, with a price tag of around $2,000 to $2,200 (versus $2,900 for the more well-equipped Fairlane 500). Marketing materials for the Custom called it “the new Ford” and emphasized the benefits of “premium lifestyle at half the price of premium vehicles.”

This ’57 teal and white car has an attractive exterior and a reportedly well-maintained interior. Under the hood, power comes from a 292ci V8 rated at 205 horsepower, with a three-speed automatic transmission instead of a manual transmission.

Worth noting: The 292ci Y-engine is the same engine found in the Thunderbird of the same era. In fact, Ford calls the Custom and Fairlane “Thunderbird Go.” In the listing, the seller outlines some of the mechanical work that’s been done, including the installation of an electronic fuel pump, a generator-to-alternator conversion, and the installation of a custom dual exhaust system.

“It drives very smoothly, has low gas mileage, and is an eye-catcher,” the seller said. “This car brings smiles and good times. It has won three trophies and has been featured in car magazines.”

If you’re ready to add an eye-catching car to your garage, ask the seller for an offer today, because this two-tone beauty could be yours. Asking price: $16,000.
