MG’s next generation HS plug-in hybrid It’s not expected to be launched until 2025, but it will have a longer electric driving range than the upcoming HS Plus EV.
car expert It is understood that the next generation HS PHEV will be launched in mid-2025, and now Australian government documents show that the HS PHEV has been approved for sale.
While the document is almost completely devoid of information, one line states that the petrol engine will produce 105kW of power, with total system output being 224kW.

MG recently confirmed that the UK-spec HS PHEV will be powered by a 105kW turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 24.7kWh battery, for a total system output of 226kW and 432Nm.
This suggests that the Australian market model will use the same powertrain, which appears to be only slightly different than the system used in the Chinese market Roewe D5X DMH, rather than the lower-end PHEV system eRX5 used in the Chinese market Roewe.
The new UK-spec HS PHEV has a WLTP range of 121km, while the outgoing HS Plus EV has a measured range of 63km on the more relaxed NEDC cycle.
The new car also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing you to power appliances just like the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
Here’s how the upcoming HS Plus EV and UK-spec HS PHEV compare:
