Hero Splendor leads two-wheeler sales in September 2024, becomes only model to cross 3-lakh sales mark

In September 2024, the domestic market demand in the two-wheeler segment was strong. Sales last month increased by 14.52% year-on-year and 17.61% month-on-month to 13,77,712 units, achieving double-digit growth. Sales in September 2023 exceeded 12,03,018 units and sales in August 2024 exceeded 11,71,424 units. Except Suzuki Access and TVS Raider, all the models in the top 10 list recorded growth.

Top 10 two-wheeler sales in September 2024

“Heroes” sold 3,75,886 units last month, ranking first on the list. This is a growth of 17.58% compared to 3,19,692 units sold in September 2023. Sales increased by 56,194 units. Splendor is the only model on this list with sales exceeding 300,000 units, accounting for 27.28% of the market share. The month-on-month sales volume also increased by 24.08% from 3,02,934 units in August 2024, with a significant increase of 72,952 units.

The second position is taken by Honda Activa scooter. Last month, 2,62,316 units were sold, a year-on-year increase of 11.60% and a month-on-month increase of 15.33%. Over 2,35,056 units and 2,27,458 units were sold in September 2023 and August 2024 respectively.

Honda Shine is a popular model in the 125cc segment and its sales in September 2024 increased by 12.56% year-on-year to 1,81,835 units. This is higher than September 2023’s sales of 1,61,544 units, an increase of 20,291 units. The Shine currently holds 13.20% market share, down from 14.94% in August 2024, when it sold 1,75,031 units, a month-on-month growth of 3.89%.

Hero HF Deluxe recorded the highest year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter sales growth. Sales volume increased by 1,13,827 units in the past month, a year-on-year increase of 35.32%, and a month-on-month increase of 34.54%. 84,118 units and 84,607 units were sold in September 2023 and August 2024 respectively.

New TVS Jupiter boosts sales

TVS Jupiter has seen strong year-on-year and month-on-month growth, with sales of 1,02,934 units last month and a market share of 7.47%. Launched in August 2024, the 2024 Jupiter attracted buyers with its new look, more refined design and bright color options. With the new generation Jupiter, the company hopes to compete more aggressively with segment leader Honda Activa.

Another hot-selling two-wheeler, Bajaj Pulsar, sold 1,39,182 units last month. This represents a year-on-year growth of 15.86% from the 1,20,126 units sold in September 2023, and a month-on-month growth of 19.73% from the 1,16,250 units sold in August 2024. TVS XL in the moped segment sold 54,969 units last month. It increased by 22.31% year-on-year and 23.40% month-on-month, occupying 3.99% of the market share.

The list of top 10 two-wheelers also includes the Suzuki Access, whose sales dropped significantly to 53,715 units last month. It dropped 5.83% year-on-year and 13.96% month-on-month, with the market share falling to 3.99%. While Bajaj Platina sales reached 49,774 units last month, up 2.38% year-on-year and 18.75% month-on-month, TVS Raider sales fell to 43,274 units. Raider sales fell 11.24% year-on-year, but month-on-month sales were good, with 26,923 units sold in August 2024, an increase of 60.73%.
