Some artists don’t know when to put down their paintbrushes, and some suspects don’t know when to stop running. Ideally, they wouldn’t run away at all, but in this story, the driver managed to escape four times before he was finally caught. In the process, he left a trail of destruction, including a police officer hitting an innocent driver on the road.

Late in the evening of July 4, Arkansas police pursued a Dodge Charger Scat Pack driver who had fled a traffic stop. Speeds reached 135 mph (217 km/h) almost immediately on the highway, with both the suspect and the pursuing officers narrowly missing a collision. About four minutes into the pursuit, a significant gap opened between the Dodge and the officers. At this point, the lead officer suffered a flat tire and dropped out of the pursuit.

The police then spotted the suspect and chased him. This time, however, the suspect left the highway and managed to gain some distance by passing other vehicles on the shoulder. The police slowed down at several intersections to avoid accidents, but the Charger was gone. However, all efforts to avoid an accident were quickly in vain.

A third officer, Hunter Glover, was waiting on the side of the road when he saw the suspect and gave chase again. This time, however, Glover’s pursuit was short-lived when he inexplicably slammed into the back of an innocent driver at 73 mph (117 kph) and did not appear to try to avoid the accident. Glover yelled “I’ve got a wreck, go get him!” before asking bystanders for help. Meanwhile, the car he had hit was on its side in a ditch.
Nearly 90 minutes later, the officers spotted the Charger again and gave chase again. This time, however, they encountered a PIT attempt. However, the driver cleverly avoided the tactic with some counter-steering, and the officer’s Charger was ultimately disabled. A few minutes later, a fifth officer spotted the vehicle, gave chase, and was able to get the vehicle to PIT before having to pursue on foot.
Ultimately, ASP captured the suspect, 20-year-old Tylawrence Thomas, and charged him with theft, second-degree assault, fleeing, unlawful use of a prohibited weapon, use of a machine gun to commit a crime, speeding more than 15 mph over the limit, reckless driving, improper display of license plates, first-degree assault, felony fleeing causing serious bodily injury, felony fleeing causing great danger of death, and seatbelt violation.
