Ranger Super Duty will have the largest towing capacity and total vehicle mass rating of any Ford Ranger model

- The Ford Ranger Super Duty was spotted testing in Michigan shortly after releasing its official trailer.
- The new pickup truck can tow up to 4,500 kilograms (9,921 pounds), matching F-150 requirements.
- The Super Duty also features rugged styling, wide fenders and numerous off-road capabilities.
Shortly after Ford released the first teaser of the upcoming Ranger Super Duty in Australia, a camouflaged prototype of the rugged workhorse has been spotted stretching its legs on American soil. The “Super Duty” badge promises a trio of upgrades, including increased towing, expanded cargo capacity and better off-road capability, all wrapped in a tougher, more capable aesthetic.
The prototype’s chassis cab configuration and front end are unlike any current Ranger trim. Key elements include prominent fender extensions, a redesigned grille and a redesigned hood, all of which contribute to its purposeful, no-nonsense stance.

Ford’s midsize truck comes with a host of off-road hardware that’s right for the occasion. The pickup features a heavy-duty front bumper, skid plates, snorkels and rugged side steps that double as body armor. The black steel wheels are wrapped in General Grabber A/T tires, and the suspension appears to be improved over the standard Ranger. Another cool detail is the extra lights mounted on the front fenders, possibly making up for the lack of indicator lights on the rearview mirror caps.
Accessories
Ford is also playing the customization brand. Super Duty buyers will reportedly be able to load up their rigs with factory-installed accessories, thus avoiding the hassle of after-sales repairs (and potential warranty voiding). Think of it as a Ford-approved adult toy box, complete with winch, roof rack, and more.

Big numbers, bigger ambitions
Ford claims the Ranger Super Duty will tow more than any other vehicle in the midsize segment, with a braked towing capacity of 4,500 kilograms (9,921 pounds). That number is surprisingly close to the F-150’s range and should make it a compelling choice for heavy-duty work. Likewise, its gross vehicle mass (GVM) is 4,500 kg and gross combined mass (GCM) is 8,000 kg (17,637 lbs), meaning this Ranger is designed to carry heavy loads.
under the hood
The company is tight-lipped about where the Ranger Super Duty is powered, but a wise investment would be to buy a V6 engine with more torque and horsepower. The Ranger’s ladder-frame chassis is also expected to be strengthened – no surprise considering the Super Duty’s positioning as a serious contender in the heavy-duty hauling segment.
The emerging global main force
Our spy photographers captured a camouflaged Ranger prototype testing in Dearborn, Michigan, albeit in a right-hand-drive configuration. While the Ranger Super Duty is destined to hit Australian showrooms first in 2026, it will be available globally, which should broaden its appeal to buyers who want mid-size practicality and full-size muscle.
As far as we know, there are no concrete plans to bring the Ranger Super Duty to North America. However, we’ve reached out to Ford for clarification and will update this story as soon as they respond.
