Subaru discontinues entry-level WRX, raises prices for 2025
  • Subaru has launched the 2025 WRX with a more streamlined lineup, now starting at $35,750.
  • The Base model has been axed, and the TR model has been replaced by the more expensive tS model.
  • The 2025 WRX will arrive in U.S. dealers early next year with a 271-horsepower turbocharged engine.

If you’re in the market for a Subaru WRX, be prepared to spend more, as the company has canceled the base model for 2025. That means the cost of entry jumps from $32,735 to $35,750, and that doesn’t include destination charges. It has risen $50 to $1,170.

Consumers were effectively hit with a double whammy, as in addition to eliminating the base model, Subaru also raised the price of the WRX Premium. The entry-level version now starts at $35,750, up from $34,635. That’s an increase of $1,115, and that doesn’t include the higher destination charge.

The Limited’s price also increases by $1,115, while the $41,655 WRX TR is replaced by the $45,705 WRX tS. Finally, the 2025 WRX GT is priced at $45,705, an increase of $1,490.

These are significant jumps, and Subaru says they eliminated the entry-level variant because “few buyers opted for the base trim last year.” It’s an unfortunate development, especially considering the limited changes for 2025.

There are some updates, though, including red WRX badging on the grille and trunk. Customers will also find a new Galaxy Purple paint, priced at $395, featuring blue and purple metallic flakes.

Moving inside, most trims have red WRX stitching on the dashboard. Limited and GT also “update the interior with bold red contrast stitching on the seat bolsters and headrests.” Additionally, the GT now features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. All WRXs also come with the newly standard DriverFocus distraction mitigation system.

The big news for 2025 is the aforementioned WRX tS, which comes with Brembo brakes and STI-tuned adjustable dampers. Buyers will also find a revised exterior with Crystal Black Silica trim and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires. Other highlights include leather and Ultrasuede Recaro front seats, a digital instrument cluster and tS badging throughout the cabin.

Regardless of trim choice, all WRXs are powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. It can be connected to a six-speed manual transmission or a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. Both come with standard all-wheel drive.
