Mahindra Thar ROXX becomes the first non-load-carrying SUV to receive five stars, the highest score in the history of Bharat NCAP
The second generation Mahindra Thar created history by receiving a four-star safety rating in Global NCAP and Mahindra continues the tradition with its latest car, the Mahindra Thar ROXX, which received a five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP test. Not only is it the first non-body-carrying construction vehicle to receive a five-star rating in Bharat NCAP, it also has the highest score achieved by any vehicle in Bharat NCAP. Mahindra Thar ROXX scored 31.09/32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45/49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).
With such performance in a body-on-frame SUV, it’s no surprise that Mahindra’s monocoque offering also received five stars regardless of its powertrain type, as the ICE-powered Mahindra XUV 3XO and XUV400 EV both received Five Star Ratings Five stars each from Bharat NCAP. Mahindra XUV 3XO scored 29.36/32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 43/49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). Mahindra XUV400 EV continues to maintain the same performance with AOP of 30.377/32 and COP of 43/49.
Bharat NCAP was announced in August 2023 as an initiative of the Indian government to make cars safer for Indian road users. India became the fifth country in the world to launch its own crash test rating system for cars after its launch in October. Bharat NCAP is one of the most cost-effective crash tests in the world, with the cost of testing a single vehicle being around Rs 60 lakh, while overseas tests like Global NCAP cost Rs 25 crore. We hope to see more such initiatives for Indian motorists in the future.
