New Maruti eVitara electric SUV

In India, the Maruti eVitara electric SUV will compete with the likes of Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV

In the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki was once known as a small economy car maker. The company has successfully expanded its product portfolio with many quality products. All Maruti vehicles are either internal combustion vehicles or self-charging hybrids. Now, the company is preparing to launch its first electric vehicle.

eVitara recently made its debut in Milan, Italy. Testing of this electric car is ongoing and will appear regularly. The recent spy shots come courtesy of car enthusiast Ankit, who spotted the test mule in Gurgaon, Haryana. Let’s take a closer look at Suzuki’s first electric car in the world and India.

The strategic partnership between Suzuki and Toyota has proven fruitful for both brands, with both launching products in a variety of badge designs. The Suzuki brand recently confirmed that its new electric car, which has undergone rigorous testing, will have a Toyota equivalent. Production will begin in spring 2025, with launch in summer 2025.

Recent spy shots show the eVitara up close. It’s clad in camo like the previous test mule. We can see that it has quite a presence on the road thanks to its strong design elements. From a design perspective, the recently launched eVitara showcases a striking sporty fascia, a closed grille and some aggression.

The headlights with LED daytime running lights look muscular and aura, and the bumper has a bullbar-shaped opening and is equipped with fog lights. The charging port is located on the front left quarter panel. Suzuki seems to be targeting a slightly sloping roofline, which is currently popular in India and major global markets.

Its length, width and height are 4,275 mm, 1,800 mm, 1,635 mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2,700 mm. Minimum ground clearance is 180mm and curb weight ranges from 1,702kg to 1,899kg. There are disc brakes on all four wheels. Wheel size will be 19 inches, but the wheels found in India will be 18 inches and shod with 225/55 MRF Wanderer tyres.

Specifications and features

The Suzuki eVitara and Toyota equivalent will be available with either a 49 kWh or 61 kWh battery pack, with the latter offering a dual-motor 4WD option. Based on a native electric platform, the eVitara is primarily a front-wheel drive vehicle with an electric motor capable of up to 172 bhp and 189 Nm. As with the 61 kWh version, the 4WD version comes with a 64 bhp rear electric motor at the rear, for a total system output of 181 bhp and 300 Nm.

The interior has also been revealed and includes a floating center console, vertically oriented AC vents, a two-spoke steering wheel, dual free-standing screens with the latest connectivity suite and high-quality materials as it is a global product. It is speculated that the Suzuki eVitara will be launched in Europe and Japan first and then in markets such as India, although part of the production will be done in India. A similar strategy to the Jimny lifestyle SUV.
