MotoGP: Augusto Fernandez officially announced as

Augusto Fernandez will team up with experienced Yamaha MotoGP test rider Cal Crutchlow. The Spaniard will also participate in next year’s top-flight tournament as a wild card.

Augusto Fernandez is preparing for a crucial career change when he joins Yamaha as a MotoGP test rider in 2025. With his final season as a full-time premier rider coming to an end, Fernandez will focus on supporting Yamaha’s development efforts alongside experienced official test team rider Cal Crutchlow. Despite a difficult spell in KTM Tech 3, Fernandez will remain on the MotoGP circuit via a wildcard entry, benefiting from Yamaha’s franchise status, and as the main reserve rider.

Lin Jarvis said: I am delighted to confirm that Augusto Fernandez will officially join Yamaha as a Yamaha Factory MotoGP test rider for the 2025 season. Bike development is Yamaha’s top priority as we challenge to return to winning ways as early as possible.

“We have signed Augusto to become our second Yamaha test rider alongside Cal Crutchlow. Unfortunately Cal will not be able to carry out all of his testing duties in 2024 and it is clear that we need to recruit A second rider came to assist us with all basic activities in 2025.

“We believe Augusto will be a great fit for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP test team and the YZR-M1 bike. Augusto is young and fast and he can test with Carl and learn the special approach required from a full-time test rider.

Augusto Fernández said: “I am very happy and excited to be joining Yamaha as a test rider for 2025. It is an honor to be part of the Yamaha family and I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible .I will do my best to help Yamaha get back to where they deserve to be in this amazing new project and can’t wait to start our journey together!

The Spaniard joins forces with the KTM Tech3 team and enters the 2024 season in 20th place in the riders’ standings with 27 points. In contrast, his rookie teammate Pedro Acosta finished sixth overall with an outstanding performance of 215 points.
