Half of the people are still alive! Dodge expands production of Durango R/T, SRT Hellcat
  • Due to customer demand, Dodge decided to expand production of Hemi-powered Durangos.
  • The Durango R/T and SRT Hellcat were originally scheduled to be discontinued at the end of this month.
  • The 2025 Durango R/T starts at $54,495, but you’ll need to shell out six figures for the SRT Hellcat.

In what could be described as a Christmas miracle, Dodge has announced that it will expand production of the Durango R/T and Durango SRT Hellcat. Both models were originally due to ride off into the sunset on December 31, but will now run until 2025.

Dodge says the change is due in part to “market demand and customer feedback.” The company did not elaborate, but the move follows the ouster of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares. The former executive reportedly pushed for the Hemi’s elimination despite strong opposition.

Dodge CEO Matt McAleer sidestepped the question but said “the Dodge Durango and Hemi engines make a powerful pair, and Dodge will continue to make the most powerful gas-engined SUV on the planet in 2025.” He said Adding: “This is the perfect finale as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Hemi-powered Durango.”

However, the celebrations were less joyful as Dodge canceled the Durango 392 for 2025. So you no longer get the 475 hp (354 kW / 482 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 lb-ft) 6.4-liter Hemi V8. Nm) torque.

Instead, your choices are limited to the 5.7-liter or supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engines. The former produces 360 hp (268 kW / 365 PS) and 390 lb-ft (528 Nm) of torque, while the latter produces 710 hp (529 kW / 720 PS) and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque. You can also buy a 3.6-liter V6, but where’s the fun in that?

Pricing for the 2025 Durango starts at $41,995, but you’ll have to pay $54,495 for the R/T. Customers can also get various SRT Hellcat special editions, which retail for $113,720.
