The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the entry-level hatchback from the Indo-Japanese carmaker and has enjoyed a successful 25 years in the country. It has been the highest-selling car in India for three consecutive fiscal years (FY22, FY23 and FY24). The carmaker revealed that the hatchback has more than 3.2 million customers and is popular among first-time car buyers. Currently, the Maruti WagonR is available in two petrol engines – 1.0L and 1.2L – offering 66 bhp, 89 Nm and 89 bhp, 113 Nm respectively. Both manual and AGS (or AMT) gearboxes are available.
Introduction and generational updates
Maruti WagonR was first launched in India in 1999. Its tall design, spacious interior and practicality make it stand out among cars in its class. This hatchback is also popular for its fuel efficiency and affordability. In the 25 years since its launch, the model has gone through several generations of updates and facelifts, each improving on the previous version in terms of design, functionality and performance.
The hatchback entered its second generation in 2008, launching a CNG variant along with a more modern design and updated engines. Launched in 2019, its third-generation version is built on a new platform and features updates such as reverse parking sensors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, and more. Current models and their products
Last updated in 2022. Currently, the Maruti WagonR lineup comes in 12 variants (including Waltz and Dual-Tone editions) priced between Rs 5.54 lakh and Rs 7.33 lakh (ex-showroom). The standard features package includes electric front windows, manual air conditioning, remaining battery display, idle start/stop, rear parking sensors, speed alert, seat belt reminder, ABS with EBD and dual airbags.
Features 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers, front passenger side under seat tray, tachometer, power-folding mirrors, turn signals on mirrors, front fog lights, rear wiper , washer and defogger and 14-inch alloy wheels are reserved for high-end trims.
