Police impound car after Nissan GT-R explodes on highway at nearly 190 km/h

A Nissan GT-R owner caught driving nearly twice the speed on a Sydney motorway will lose his supercar killer machine for the next three months and his license within half a year.

On Sunday, December 8, Bankstown Highway Patrol officers spotted a Nissan GT-R traveling at 125km/h on the M5 motorway at Revesby, which has a signposted speed limit of 100km/h.

While this would normally result in a $542 fine and four demerit points, the GT-R was subsequently caught accelerating to 189 km/h.

Police then went to the owner’s address and confirmed the identities of the GT-R and its driver.

The driver’s license was suspended for six months on the spot and he was also fined $2794.

Meanwhile, the Nissan GT-R was impounded for three months and its license plate was also seized.

Unlike some other Australian jurisdictions, New South Wales police do not have the power to seize and smash vehicles involved in dangerous driving.
