Mercedes asks 17 E-Class owners to stop driving their cars
  • Affected vehicles include 2025 Mercedes E350 and E450 models with rear axle issues.
  • Mercedes-Benz has discovered a possible weak weld in the camber strut brace.
  • It’s unclear when the automaker will begin making necessary repairs to affected cars.

Mercedes-Benz only recently began production of the 2025 E-Class, but a small number of models have already been recalled in the United States. Unlike simple software issues that can be fixed with over-the-air updates, these vehicles require a trip to a dealership, with Mercedes actually urging owners to stop driving their cars.

So what exactly is the problem that prompts Mercedes to tell owners to stop? The problem stems from the welds that secure the camber strut brackets to the rear axle bracket. These welds may not comply with current production specifications and may pose a safety risk.

Mercedes says that because these welds are weak, they may not be able to withstand the forces experienced while driving, and the camber strut brackets may become detached from the rear axle. This can seriously affect the vehicle’s controllability and increase the risk of a crash. The failure was blamed on “deviations in the production process.”

The recall affects a total of 17 vehicles in the United States. This includes 2025 Mercedes-Benz E350, E350 4Matic, E450 4Matic and E450 4Matic station wagon models produced between August 12, 2024, and September 6, 2024.

The brand launched an investigation into the possible problem on December 9, when a welding error was discovered at one of its assembly plants. There have been no warranty claims or field or service reports related to this fault.

In an effort to address this issue before it causes an accident, Mercedes-Benz USA is issuing a stop-driving warning to all owners. The MBUSA Customer Service Center will assist with towing affected vehicles to the dealer free of charge. Customers will also be offered loaner vehicles or alternative transportation so they are not too inconvenienced by the recall.

Dealers have been instructed to replace the rear axle brackets on affected vehicles, but it’s unclear when repairs will begin.
