The updated Fronx is likely to be launched in India next year or in 2026, marking a milestone as Maruti Suzuki’s first affordable model with powerful hybrid technology
Maruti Suzuki Fronx was launched in April 2023 after being showcased at the Auto Expo and quickly became a blockbuster. By mid-2024, the company has expanded exports to Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Domestically, the Fronx broke the record and became the fastest Maruti Suzuki model to achieve 100,000 sales in 10 months and quickly doubled the number.
Facing competition from Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Fronx becomes the brand’s second model exported to Japan after the Baleno. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have already achieved great success with powerful hybrid versions of the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, highlighting the growing demand for hybrid technology.
As both brands prepare for electrification by 2025, Maruti Suzuki’s strategic aim is to diversify its hybrid lineup across multiple price segments. Fronx is expected to be a key component of the plan, positioning itself as a serious contender in India’s growing hybrid vehicle segment.

The upcoming Fronx facelift, expected to be launched next year or 2026, will be a game-changer as it may introduce Maruti Suzuki’s in-house strong hybrid technology for the first time. The advanced system will be powered by the Z12E engine initially launched with the new Swift. After its debut, the hybrid setup may also find its way to other models in the near future, such as the next-generation Baleno.
The updated Fronx may become India’s first sub-4 meter SUV to come with hybrid technology and may have fuel efficiency of over 30 km/gallon. In addition to a cutting-edge hybrid powertrain, the facelift is expected to receive subtle design tweaks and interior improvements. Maruti Suzuki’s roadmap includes the next-generation hybrid Baleno to be launched soon, followed by a compact MPV in 2026, and the all-new Swift hybrid expected to be launched in 2027.
