F1: Aston Martin appoints Andy Cowell as team principal,

Aston Martin has announced that Andy Cowell, the former head of Mercedes’ high-performance powertrain division, has succeeded Mike Krack as its new Formula One team principal. The move is part of a major reorganization led by Cowell to streamline operations and define clearer roles between track and factory teams. Best known for leading the Mercedes-led F1 engine program from 2008 to 2020, Cowell brings unparalleled technical expertise and leadership. Since joining Aston Martin in October, he has had a strong influence on the team’s direction. Mike Krack, who has been team principal for nearly three years, will now serve as chief track official. This change in strategy highlights his important role in optimizing on-track performance. Aston Martin’s restructuring reflects its ambition to improve F1’s competitiveness and lay the foundation for future success.

Andy Cowell said: “I have been understanding and assessing our performance over the past three months and have been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team. With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and As we transition to a full workforce in 2026, together with our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are becoming a team of champions. These organizational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plan we have planned for the future. Feel very excited.

F1: Other changes

Aston Martin has also made other major changes to strengthen its F1 business. Former Ferrari employee Enrico Cardile has been appointed chief technical officer. Qadir is known for his innovative approach to automotive design and engineering and is expected to bring new insights to the team. Although his start date has not yet been set, his arrival is highly anticipated. Legendary car designer Adrian Newey will join Aston Martin on March 2 as managing technical partner.

Experienced performance director Tom McCullough will turn his focus to supporting Aston Martin’s other racing endeavors, ensuring his expertise continues to benefit the organization’s wider success.
