It was the costliest wildfire in California’s history, with staggering economic toll, estimated at $135 billion to $150 billion — a figure that could rise even further as containment efforts continue to face significant challenges.

The fires have impacted air quality, traffic and access in some areas and emergency response efforts are ongoing. If you’re planning to travel to the area, here’s what you need to know to stay safe and informed:
- Red flag warnings have been issued in Los Angeles and Southern California, indicating fire conditions remain severe.
- The Santa Ana winds that caused the fires to spread quickly are expected to return today. Get the latest updates from the National Weather Service so you know what to expect in the Los Angeles area you’re visiting.
