beMatrix Education Academy creates “beManiacs”

In early 2020, beMatrix USA launched its Education Academy, bringing more than 60 exhibition and design professionals to Georgia to receive hands-on training in the use of its modular framing system and CAD design software. Dubbed the “beManiac Academy,” the event offers one-on-one sessions with beMatrix experts to help attendees optimize designs and increase ROI.

Participants praised the program’s practical insights and innovative approach, further cementing beMatrix’s position as a leader in exhibition systems education. Each attendee received a certificate of completion and was equipped with the tools to enhance their future projects.

Boston’s will rises from ashes

January 2010, exhibition city news Covers Willwork, Inc.’s recovery after a devastating fire destroyed its headquarters in Avon, Massachusetts in February 2009. The fire cost the company its headquarters, but operations quickly resumed in a temporary location under the leadership of founder Bill Nixon Jr.

In January 2010, reconstruction of the new headquarters was underway to improve efficiency and expand capabilities. Willwork’s resilience and commitment to customers and employees embodies the spirit of the industry in overcoming challenges. A rededication ceremony is planned for April 2010.

Photography enthusiast Michael posts exposure

In 2004, Las Vegas trade show photographer Gary Michael founded Exposures, Ltd. to provide digital photography and imaging services to convention and trade show marketers nationwide.

Michael entered the industry in 1983 and was already known for his creativity and professionalism. His honors include the 2003 Art of Show Award from the International Association of Exhibition Management and the 1996 “Best of Show” Award for Architectural Photography from Nevada Professional Photographers.

Exposures, Ltd. builds on Michael’s reputation for excellence, bringing cutting-edge photography technology to events across the country.

Problems facing the industry

In 2004, an industry survey highlighted key challenges in trade show transportation, including driver shortages, rising fuel costs and increased maintenance expenses.

The driver shortage has become a top concern, and companies like First Fleet are addressing it through hiring, training and better scheduling. Industry leaders emphasize the need for sustainable strategies to attract skilled drivers and reduce costs to ensure successful trade show logistics.

Life is good as a niche contractor

January 2000, exhibition city news Century 21 Expo Group founder Ray McFarland celebrates nearly a decade of success with his wife, Leslie. Founded in 1991, the company has thrived by focusing on small regional trade shows and events, with 30% of its revenue coming from national shows and 70% from regional and corporate events.

McFarland’s emphasis on personal client relationships and addressing the gaps left by larger contractors sets the company apart. His leadership role in the Exhibition Contractors Association (ECA) highlights his dedication to advancing the industry.

Pittsburgh Airport named ‘Best Airport in the Nation’

In 1999, Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) was named the best airport in the United States and the third best airport in the world. condé nast traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

PIT is praised for its food, shopping and amenities, second only to Singapore’s Changi Airport and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. With more than 100 shops and restaurants and a streamlined design, PIT sets a high standard for guest satisfaction and solidifies Pittsburgh’s position as a premier destination for business and leisure.

Survey shows improvement in trade show workforce

A survey conducted at the 1999 Association of Food Technologists Annual Meeting revealed significant improvements in the trade show workforce and visitor experience at McCormick Place in Chicago. Respondents rated cooperation, cleanliness and overall quality significantly higher than in previous years.

The Metropolitan Marina and Exhibitions Authority (MPEA) has implemented key reforms including improving access, expanding parking and improving customer service. These efforts strengthen Chicago’s reputation as a premier trade show destination and pave the way for even larger events in the coming years.
