- Kia is recalling nearly 75,000 Sorentos because their headlights and taillights may go out.

Blackout packages are all the rage, but Kia seems to be taking them a little too literally. This triggered a recall as 74,469 Sorentos may be missing headlights and taillights.

This is a serious safety issue that can increase the risk of a crash. The government also noted that these models do not meet federal safety standard requirements involving lighting.

The safety recall report said the vehicles were equipped with a “software logic error” in the body domain control unit. In some cases, this may cause the headlights and taillights to temporarily disappear.

Kia North America learned of the issue from colleagues in South Korea, and the company decided to issue a recall for the same issue. In its home market, the Sorento crossover may lose some exterior and interior lights when driving.
Kia North America checked their records and found no reported cases. Nonetheless, the company decided to proceed with the recall.
It affects the 2024 and 2025 Sorento as well as the 2025 Sorento Hybrid and 2025 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. Owner notifications are expected to go out next month, and dealers will update the body domain control unit software free of charge.
