As is customary in the industry, these First Edition models are better equipped and more expensive than the regular EVs, which will be available once Dodge has squeezed out early adopters. The First Edition R/T gets the Direct Connection eStage 1 upgrade, which adds 40 horsepower (41 PS) for a total of 496 hp (503 PS), and the Plus Group gets ventilated leather seats, a 16-inch instrument cluster, and fancy LED lighting including a light bar. Also included are the Sun & Sound Group — a panoramic sunroof, an Alpine Pro 18-speaker hi-fi stereo — and the Blacktop Appearance package, which adds a bit of grit with dark 20-inch wheels and dark R/T badging.
To justify its $15,000 premium over the Charger Daytona R/T, the $82,170 Scat Pack First Edition comes with the Direct Connection eStage 2 upgraded dual-motor drivetrain that adds 80 horsepower (81 PS) for a total of 670 hp (679 PS), as well as a Track Pack consisting of red Brembo six-piston calipers up front, 305 and 325 section tires front and rear, leather and suede sport seats, and a driving experience recorder.
It also comes with the same Plus and Sun & Sound Group packages as the R/T, but swaps the Blacktop Appearance package for the Carbon & Suede package, which includes carbon fiber mirror caps and interior trim, a suede headliner, and dark-finished 20-inch wheels.
Dodge dealers are hoping that there are so many wealthy Mopar fans desperate to own a new Charger that they won’t spend too much time considering these prices. Buyers have some great EV options from other automakers, including the new 510-horsepower (517 PS) Tesla Model 3 Performance, which costs just $54,630, and the excellent 641-horsepower (650 PS) Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which is a bit more expensive, but at $67,495 it still undercuts both Chargers.
The less expensive (and less loaded) Charger Daytona EV will come later, but the real value will come next spring when Dodge introduces the internal combustion engine model. In a recent Carscoops poll, 82% of people said they would prefer to wait for the internal combustion version, and we don’t know the price of the EV by then.
