Ola has successfully established itself as a leader in the electric scooter segment with its aggressive pricing strategy. The company’s S1 series of electric scooters are popular in India and have long topped the sales charts. Now, the company is looking to expand its success into the electric motorcycle segment.
Ola Electric showcased as many as four electric motorcycle concepts some time ago, one of which was the Roadster concept, which is likely to have been derived into a mass-produced version. Not long ago, the design patents applied by Ola in India were leaked, showing a number of naked street bikes.
These design patents look like multiple variants of the scooter with different equipment levels and styling elements. There is a high probability that Ola will launch multiple versions of its scooter. Ola has also adopted a similar approach with its S1 series of electric scooters.
From the side, the Ola e-bike looks like a muscular street naked motorcycle. Ola has previously shown the battery and some electrical components of this bike. We can see a large battery, which is located where the engine of a traditional motorcycle would be. We can also see some circuits and other control boards in the previous teaser.
The mid-mounted motor drives the rear wheel via a chain drive. From the recent teaser, we can see some of its components. The front uses RSU telescopic front suspension and the rear uses a monoshock setup. There are disc brakes at both ends and both seem to have 17-inch alloy wheels.
what happens?
Considering it comes from Ola Electric, we are likely to get plenty of features and gimmicks to stand out in the emerging electric motorcycle segment. A 7-inch touchscreen instrument screen with Ola Maps, music controls, etc. There may also be an onboard speaker to play music.
The range on a single charge is likely to be around 180 kms, which is roughly the same as the S1 Pro Gen II. From the previous teasers, the Ola electric bike looks like a commuter-style product with performance comparable to a 150cc motorcycle. It comes with dual-LED projector headlights as shown in the previous teasers and other elements. The price is likely to be around Rs 1.5 lakh (effective ex-showroom).
