Mahindra has just launched the Thar ROXX, which is a massive upgrade over the 3-door model in every way. We will quickly bring you 20 unique features of the Thar ROXX over the 3-door model.
Let’s start with the obvious.
2 additional doors and a large bench seat
The Thar ROXX has a practical 5-door layout, which means it is now a viable option for families. Not only the 5-door layout, but also the long rear seats make the Thar ROXX more suitable for daily use than the 3-door version.
Level 2 ADAS
Safety on the 5-door Thar ROXX has been significantly improved thanks to the addition of Level 2 ADAS. The ADAS suite on the 5-door Thar ROXX is quite comprehensive, offering Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Smart Driving Assist (SPA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and High Beam Assist (HBA). All these features make Mahindra’s new SUV much safer than the 3-door model, whose safety features now look pretty basic in comparison.
Full metal hardtop
While the 3-door Thar is available in both convertible soft-top and fabric hard-top options, Mahindra has put all its efforts into equipping the Thar ROXX with a full metal hard-top. This gives the new SUV the following advantages: 1. Better weather sealing and 2. An extra layer of safety as the metal top is stronger than the fabric hard-top on the 3-door model.
Panoramic sunroof
The Thar ROXX being equipped with a metal hardtop means that Mahindra designers can now integrate a large panoramic sunroof into the Thar ROXX, which adds significantly to the vehicle’s appeal given how popular sunroofs are among Indian car buyers. In addition, Mahindra also offers a single-pane sunroof on the lower trims of the Thar Roxx, which is also possible due to the hardtop.
Electrically adjustable driver’s seat
The Thar ROXX comes with a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, which makes this SUV comparable to other compact SUVs in the same price range like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Apart from the off-roader market, Mahindra seems to be focusing more on the family SUV buyers, and that is the case with the Thar ROXX.
Front seat ventilation
The luxury quotient goes up a few points as both the driver and front passenger get ventilated seats. Again, this feature is not available on the 3-door Thar but is available on models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Clearly, Mahindra wants the Thar ROXX to attract mid-size SUV buyers.
360-degree camera
Considering that the Thar ROXX is much larger than the 3-door model, the addition of a 360-degree camera is a good choice for both safety and convenience. In addition, the camera also has a unique “under the hood view” designed to allow the driver to see what is happening under the front wheels of the car.
Automatic headlights and wipers
Again, these features are now fairly common on mid-size SUVs sold in India, such as the Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta. Mahindra has added these two features to the five-door Thar ROXX to bring it in sync with mid-size SUVs.
Significant increase in power and torque
As the Thar ROXX grows in size, weight and passenger capacity, extra power and torque is exactly what is needed. Mahindra has realised this and has given the Thar ROXX a base tune of 160 Bhp-330 Nm for the 2-litre turbo petrol engine and 150 Bhp-330 Nm for the 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The more powerful Thar ROXX diesel offers 175 Bhp-380 Nm, while the petrol offers 175 Bhp-370 Nm.
65W Laptop Charging Port and Wireless Mobile Charging Pad
The Thar ROXX has a 65W USB Type-C charging port on the center console that can power a laptop, and a wireless charging pad is available next to it. The three-door model doesn’t have either of these features.
Climate Control
Climate control is a feature that many 3-door Thar owners missed in the past. Thar Roxx owners will be happy to have this feature on their SUV.
Fuel filler cap remote release
In the 3-door Thar, you had to hand over the car keys or go around the back of the car to unlock the fuel cap yourself every time you refuel. But in the 5-door model, this problem will no longer exist as Mahindra has finally equipped the fuel cap with a remote release device.
Height-adjustable front seat belts
In the Thar ROXX, Mahindra now offers height-adjustable front seatbelts for the driver and front passenger. It is a small but significant feature that significantly enhances the driving experience.
9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system
The top-of-the-line Mahindra Thar ROXX now comes with eight speakers and a 560-watt subwoofer designed to deliver rich sound and a great listening experience inside the SUV.
Soft-touch dashboard and interior
Every panel on the 3-door Thar feels tough and industrial to the touch.Mahindra has made comfort a top priority on the 5-door Thar ROXX, providing soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard and other door interior panels.
Electronic differential lock
This is a feature unique to the Thar ROXX 4WD model, which basically transmits torque evenly to all four wheels at the flick of a switch for better off-road performance.
Automatic dimming interior rearview mirror
An auto-dimming interior mirror is a boon for nighttime driving, reducing glare from the headlights of vehicles behind you. This can significantly reduce driver fatigue and contribute to a safer nighttime driving experience.
Smart crawling mode
With this mode activated, the Thar ROXX can climb steep obstacles at a steady pace without the driver having to control the throttle or brakes. Simply point the wheels in the right direction and the Thar ROXX will do the rest.
Smart Steering Mode
Again, this is a feature available only on 4X4 models, Intelliturn locks the inside rear wheel when making tight turns (usually U-turns) at low speeds to reduce the Thar ROXX’s turning radius.
Electronic parking brake and driving modes
The Thar ROXX comes standard with an electric parking brake. It also has two main modes: Zip and Zoom, which control the throttle response. Again, this feature is not available on the 3-door model.
