For Honda fans in India, the Elevate is one of the company’s much-awaited new products. Honestly, Honda did take too long to join the SUV bandwagon, but then again, the Japanese company always does a very thorough research before developing a new product or entering a new segment. Despite the delay, the Elevate has proven to be a hit, boosting the company’s sales in India and in the export market.
Our long-term Elevate was finished in a striking Phoenix Orange color with a contrasting black roof, ensuring excellent road presence. The interior is finished in a nice brown, and I particularly appreciated the streamlined, simple dashboard layout. Although I drove the Elevate when it debuted, spending more time with the car would provide a better understanding of how it performs in a variety of conditions, allowing for a more comprehensive assessment of its strengths and weaknesses.
My first impression is that the Elevate is a solid product. It offers a comprehensive set of features, including a well-tuned ADAS system that is barely intrusive on a daily commute. The front seats are particularly large and very comfortable, and the air conditioning is simply amazing – the car is ice cold within five minutes of driving, without having to set the temperature control below 24 degrees (I usually keep other cars at 22 degrees). It’s also quite spacious, as is the trunk, which proved very useful on my recent long trip to Himachal Pradesh.
In terms of driving, the Elevate’s suspension is well set up and handles rough roads with ease while providing solid high-speed stability. The engine is well tuned, although the rubber-band effect of the CVT transmission is a bit annoying, but there’s nothing that can be done about it. Also, I would like another 25-30 horsepower to make high-speed cruising easier, since we actually have highways to do such driving now. However, I tend to wish our long-term vehicle had more power, which is a recurring theme, so I think it should be taken with a grain of salt.
Overall, the Elevate is an excellent product for Honda fans to consider. I’ll know more about the Elevate next month when I return from another long trip.
