Recently, our detectives got behind the camera to catch it testing, and we deciphered the camouflage, revealed its stunning exterior, and brought you all the details we know so far. Let’s take a closer look at it all.

Giugiaro style styling

Call it what you want, but my goodness it’s a stunning wedge-shaped object that, at first glance, bears a passing resemblance to the Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed BMW M1.

The shark-nose front end is wide, low and intimidating, ready to pounce. BMW’s kidney grille has been redesigned with an illuminated outline that blends into the headlights and grille panel. The low hood highlights the car’s fenders, while the wraparound windshield oddly echoes the windshield of the fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro from the 1990s.

The side profile is sleek and futuristic, with a short front overhang and sleek lower doors that create a strong three-dimensional effect. Some might think it resembles Subaru’s forgotten SVX coupe, especially with the smoked window frames and glass that blends into the rear hatch.

The rear is equally striking, with a two-tone under-sleeve bumper, a prominent diffuser and a tall trunk lid. The slim horizontal taillight clusters emphasise the width of the car and integrate seamlessly with the hatchback’s loading lip.

Sports Outlook

The Neue Klasse concept previews the styling language BMW will adopt for the interiors of its electric vehicles.

While we haven’t gotten detailed photos of the interior yet, we can expect it to follow the bold yet minimalist theme set by BMW’s recent Neue Klasse concept series, with a low-slung two-seat cockpit with angular edges, recycled materials, and cutting-edge technology with integrated artificial intelligence and semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

Electric hub propeller

Neue Klasse electric coupe prototype

The absence of brake calipers on the prototype test suggests the coupe could feature a revolutionary new electric motor developed in partnership with BMW and a startup called DeepDive.

What are the benefits? This motor uses twin-rotor technology, effectively integrating two electric motors into a single unit. Its compact design and low weight enable it to be used in in-wheel drive systems, where each wheel hub houses its own electric motor. It also offers the flexibility to be used in traditional centralized drive systems.

It is expected to adopt an 800-volt electrical architecture, and the battery will use a unique chemistry that is different from other Neue Klasse models. To increase driver engagement, BMW is keen to take a leaf out of the Hyundai Ioniq 5N and add simulated gearshift and rev limiter sounds to make the driving experience more immersive.

Competitors and revelations

The pure electric coupe market is small at the moment and direct competitors are few and far between. However, the BMW coupe will compete with the likes of the MG Cyberster Coupe, Maserati GranTurismo Folgore and Polestar 6. While details about its debut remain under wraps, we expect more information to be revealed in the coming months.
