Here’s a recap of the latest customs and international trade news:

Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection Delay Deployment of enhanced capabilities of the Document Imaging System (DIS) to facilitate submission of vehicle-related export documents through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) until further notice.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that the agency will open a new Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) office in Laredo, Texas early next year.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection hold one Resume and Application Workshop on August 1. Recruiters provided information about the CBP hiring process during the workshop.

United States Trade Representative

  • Office of the United States Trade Representative Delays A review of China’s Section 301 tariff changes has been initiated, while the review of opinions continues. A final determination is expected in August 2024.

Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

  • OFAC has updated its Compliance Hotline, transforming it into a single, user-friendly online platform to receive questions from the public. Users can now submit questions directly through OFAC’s New OFAC Compliance Hotline Page.

United States International Trade Commission (USITC)

  • U.S. International Trade Commission vote Investigations into low-speed personal transport vehicles from China continue.
  • U.S. International Trade Commission vote Investigations continue into brake drums from China and Türkiye.

Ministry of Commerce

  • AD/CVD Updates:
    • Cast iron sewer pipes from China: Final Result The first accelerated sunset review.
    • Ukrainian oil pipes: Preliminary results Administrative review of anti-dumping duties.
    • German forged steel fluid end block: Final Result Administrative review of countervailing duties.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

  • The FDA published a notice in the Federal Register announcing Medical equipment usage fee and the annual institutional registration fee for fiscal year 2025.
  • FDA release Warning letters were issued to five online retailers for selling unauthorized disposable e-cigarette products.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

  • WTO roll out World Trade Statistics 2023 is a new interactive tool presenting key data and trends on international trade in goods and commercial services to 2023.

Department of Justice (DoJ)

  • Florida man and Venezuelan national charged Violations of export and firearms laws for illegally purchasing and exporting firearms to Colombia.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

  • Department of Homeland Security Announce Five additional entities based in China have been added to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List, bringing the total number of listed entities to 73.

Congress

  • Representative John Molenaar Introduction The Protecting American Industry and Workers from International Trade Crimes Act would establish a new structure specifically for prosecuting trade-related crimes, including tariff evasion and violations of the UFLPA.
  • Senators Bill Cassidy and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released a Discussion Draft Customs Facilitation Act of 2024. This bill seeks to modernize U.S. customs laws. Comments on the draft bill are due August 30.
  • Representative Crow introduced a bill The Bureau of Industry and Security’s information technology systems and applications need to be modernized.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

  • CDC Implemented New dog import requirements will be implemented on August 1. The new requirements include an ISO compliant microchip and the CDC dog import form.

Industry News

  • one New national survey The Cato Institute survey showed that 63% of Americans want increased trade with other countries, while 75% are concerned that tariffs will increase consumer prices.
  • Russia A bill was passed Allowing crypto payments in international trade to combat sanctions.
