Here’s a recap of the latest customs and international trade news:
Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
- CBP Issued guide The guidance provides specific HTSUS headings that importers should report, as well as when filers may report “N/A” for major and minor smelting countries.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Delay Deploy capabilities with a minimum threshold of $800 associated with ACE Automation by January 11th.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection accomplish Vague and unacceptable descriptions of Air Cargo Advance Security Screening (ACAS) are rejected.
- Delaware Customs and Border Protection Officer seize More than $100,000 worth of undeclared Apple products were shipped to China.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Hosting Virtual Career Fair on Sept. 5. The fair highlighted law enforcement and mission support opportunities across the country.
- EPA Supplemental Guidance document Updated to version 17. These changes reflect updates to language and text, including reporting requirements for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
- trump card Customer satisfaction survey Now open. The survey is voluntary and anonymous and closes on September 11, 2024.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection has notified Atlanta-area customs brokers that starting August 31, all weekend perishable inspections will use Reimbursable overtime pay.
- U.S. Customs and Border Protection released its first FAQ to implement its updated Air Cargo Advance Security Screening (ACAS) Implementation Guidelines.
Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
- Office of Foreign Assets Control Issue an alertRussia Attempts to Evade Sanctions Using New Foreign Branches and Subsidiaries is intended to warn foreign jurisdictions and financial institutions that Russia is attempting to evade sanctions by opening new branches and subsidiaries abroad.
- Office of Foreign Assets Control Designated This was the U.S. government’s coordinated response to Moscow’s malicious influence activities targeting the 2024 U.S. presidential election, when the U.S. government investigated 10 individuals and 2 entities.
- Sanctions List Updates:
United States Trade Representative (USTR)
- Chile Approval Agreement Work with the United States to protect market access for American cheese and meat products.
- Office of the United States Trade Representative Announce The United States has requested dispute settlement consultations with Canada under the USMCA regarding Canada’s recently enacted digital services tax.
- Office of the United States Trade Representative Announce The final ruling on Section 301 tariffs on China has been delayed again. The agency said they are working to finalize the ruling and intend to announce the results in the coming days.
United States International Trade Commission (USITC)
- U.S. International Trade Commission vote Launched an investigation into certain pre-stretched synthetic braided hair and packaging based on allegations of patent infringement.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration Four warning letters issued To companies that sell medical devices used to clean, disinfect, or sterilize continuous positive airway pressure machines and their accessories without the agency’s marketing authorization.
Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)
- 74 industry associations and companies involved in the transport of ocean cargo wrote a report letter Urge the Senate to reconfirm Karl Benzer and Lois Sola to serve a second term on the Commission.
Department of Labor (DoL)
- Department of Labor Published a report “List of Goods Produced with Child or Forced Labor.” Key trends identified: The global footprint of labor exploitation continues to grow, the list of critical minerals produced with child or forced labor has grown to 12, and labor exploitation is driving China’s dominance in global production.
Department of Justice (DoJ)
- USA Seizure Nicolás Maduro Moros used aircraft in violation of U.S. export control and sanctions laws.
- Dual American and Iranian citizenship Arrested Illegal export of U.S. technology to Iran.
U.S. Department of State
- State Council Summarize Reached a settlement with RTX Corporation to resolve 750 violations of the Arms Export Control Act. RTX will pay a $200 million civil penalty.
