After ‘Barbie,’ Mattel is developing a Matchbox Cars movie

John Cena in a car-themed movie sounds perfect to us

If you were like me as a kid, you probably played with Matchbox cars, pushing these miniature creations along the carpet and imagining what it would be like to drive them in real life. Soon, a movie will be released about them, starring John Cena.

The Matchbox Cars movie follows the huge success of Barbie, another installment in Mattel’s extensive toy line. The film became the highest-grossing film of 2023, with a global box office of nearly $1.5 billion. It was nominated for nine Golden Globe Awards and eight Academy Awards, winning two and one respectively.

A movie about the Matchbox die-cast toys, invented by car enthusiast Jack Odell in 1953, is coming to life thanks to Apple Original Films. It will join several other toy movies Mattel is producing, including a Hot Wheels movie and even a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie.

The producers of the Matchbox movie will be David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Robbie Brenner, and the director will be Sam Hargrave. The man behind the scenes extraction and Extract twostarring Chris Hemsworth.

Plot details of the film have not yet been released, but senna Looks like a perfect fit for this movie. The professional wrestler and actor has been an avid car enthusiast his entire life and still owns the 1989 Jeep Wrangler he purchased with his first WWE paycheck. He also owns a stripped-down Ultima Evolution, a Superlite Ford GT replica, a Radical track car, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a black Lamborghini Countach and several American muscle cars. He drives a 2024 Honda Civic Type R every day.

While there’s no official word yet on a release date for the Matchbox movie, the news is fresh and filming hasn’t even begun yet. So, it looks like we might have to wait a while before we see Cena walking around in miniature form.
