Groupe Renault CEO Luca de Meo says new electric Alpine ‘needs to look like’ A110

- Alpine’s first all-electric A110 weighs the same as the Porsche 718 Boxster.
- The basis of the 2026 A110 will be a dedicated electric sports car platform.
- Alpine initially developed the new sports car together with Lotus.
A new Alpine A110 is under development and, unlike the outgoing model, the next generation will be sold exclusively as an electric car. While many car enthusiasts will consider this bad news, Groupe Renault CEO Luca De Meo claims it will be lighter than similar ICE sports cars.
The French brand has confirmed it will develop the new A110 in mid-2023, revealing it will be available in Coupe and Roadster versions. Renault boss revealed that the new model will use a customized electric sports car platform, just like the 911.

“Porsche has the 911 (platform) as their own platform, and then they use other platforms (Volkswagen Group architecture) to develop products like the Taycan and Cayenne. You want to stay true to the brand,” he told Autocar, adding, “The next generation The A110 will be lighter than similar cars with internal combustion engines, but performance will not be compromised.”
Alpine hasn’t yet revealed how it made the all-electric A110 so light, but the company has been working on an electric sports car for some time. Initially, the model was developed jointly with Lotus, but in mid-2023, the two companies decided to part ways, forcing Alpine to continue developing the new sports car on its own. Still, it does have some experience in this area to draw on, having revealed an electric version of the current A110 in late 2022, called the E-ternité.
The prototype is equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack similar to the Renault Megane E-Tech, and a rear-mounted electric motor with 239 hp and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. It may be 569 pounds (258 kg) heavier than the ICE A110, but it’s lighter than the Porsche 718 Boxster, which is an impressive feat.
Alpine has confirmed that the 2026 A110 will look similar to the current model, with de Meo insisting it “needs to look like” the A110.
