  • Archimedes Defense and Up.Fit team up to launch Sting.
  • It is based on the Tesla Cybertruck and is designed for government, military, and civilian use.
  • Three different versions are planned, including the heavily armored Sting APC.

When you think of military vehicles, what comes to mind? Probably nothing but the Tesla Cybertruck.

Yet, this is exactly the future that Archimedes Defense and Up.Fit envisioned when they unveiled the Sting. It’s based on the aforementioned pickup truck and is being hailed as a “doomsday-ready” government or civilian vehicle.

The two companies are working on three different versions because they acknowledge that electric military vehicles have limitations in certain environments. Therefore, the Sting Baja is equipped with an “AMP Drive G125TM aero-derivative 800V generator set” mounted on the front trunk, which can run on jet fuel, diesel or biodiesel. It is capable of charging the Cybertruck as well as other electric vehicles at up to 125 kilowatts.

The Sting Baja will be available with an “off-road modification package” that includes a variety of undisclosed parts provided by Unplugged Performance. An optional amphibious package is also planned for the future.

For excursions more dangerous than a trip to Whole Foods, the Sting Protector is a good choice. It includes the aforementioned off-road kit as well as “bolt-on, bolt-off external offset steel armor plates.” The latter are capable of withstanding rounds from 7.62mm assault rifles.

The Sting Protector is intended for use by individuals, businesses, and governments in “medium threat environments.” As such, it comes in versions with and without a generator.

Last but not least is the Sting APC, which builds on the Protector by adding IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and mine protection. Its steel and ceramic armor plating also protects the crew from 14.5mm heavy machine gun fire. This variant is designed for “high-threat environments,” but you’ll have to pay extra for a generator.
