Arizona files lawsuit over Ram 2500 and 3500 diesel vehicles

Arizona’s attorney general filed a lawsuit alleging that Ram trucks were equipped with illegal emissions devices.

— Arizona’s attorney general has filed a lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler and engine maker Cummins, accusing the companies of selling illegal Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 diesel trucks to more than 23,600 Arizona residents.

Attorney General Kris Mayes alleges that Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks built from 2013 to 2019 were equipped with 6.7-liter engines and had illegal emissions suppression devices installed.

The attorney general claims that Ram diesel trucks were falsely marketed as “super clean” and environmentally friendly, with extremely low emissions.

According to the Arizona lawsuit, consumers were duped into buying Ram trucks that were purportedly more powerful and efficient than gasoline-powered trucks.

Ram truck owners in Arizona are allegedly paying top dollar for vehicles that harm the environment and are not legal to sell.

“By promoting their vehicles as environmentally friendly while secretly violating emissions standards, Cummins and FCA betrayed the trust of Arizonans and violated our state’s consumer protection laws. I am determined to hold these companies accountable and ensure that Arizonans are treated fairly.” – Attorney General Meyers

So-called diesel emissions defeat devices are installed to deceive emissions tests conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency.

If a truck cannot pass these tests, it cannot be marketed or sold in Arizona.

The attorney general claims that FCA and Cummins knew that Ram trucks were equipped with the defective device and allegedly knew that Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks could not be sold without violating regulations.

Ram trucks allegedly emit excessive levels of nitrogen oxides, causing smog and health problems in Arizona.

Chrysler and Cummins recently agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by owners of 2013-2015 diesel trucks over emissions in the Ram 2500 and 2500. However, the lawsuit does not include Arizona customers.
