It’s unclear what the suspect’s plan was, but he was taken out of the hunt with one wrong move.
- When officers tried to stop a driver, the van accelerated to near triple-digit speeds.
- The chase climaxed when the truck overturned due to being unable to turn.
- The driver is now facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and fleeing the scene.
When people think of getaway vehicles, they probably don’t think of a vintage GMC van. For one Arkansas man, it was his only option, so he did his best but ended up in jail. Before he went to jail, though, he managed to throw the van into the air and land it on its side. It’s unclear what exactly he was trying to do, but now he’s facing more charges than if he’d simply pulled over.
The incident occurred on August 28 in Paris, Arkansas, when police officers attempted to stop a white van. As soon as they turned on their lights, the driver turned them off and sped away. Although the speed limit was 35 mph, the van and the pursuing police officers accelerated to highway speeds.

At one point, the van’s speed approached triple digits. The officer attempted a PIT maneuver, but the driver slammed on the brakes to avoid it. Then, after running for several minutes, he tried to turn onto a dirt road. But he was going too fast and ended up overturning the turn. He then slid into an embankment, the car went airborne, and flipped over on its side.
It’s unclear what his plan was. In Arkansas, escaping is difficult, and driving an old GMC van on wide country roads is probably the worst combination. According to a report in the video description below, the officer appeared to know the driver.
“The reason for the stop was that the male driver was suspended,” the statement said. Given that police did not stop the driver to find out about this, it seems they knew who the driver was.
Regardless, the driver now faces multiple charges, including littering, reckless driving, fleeing, speeding, and failure to turn, stop, and slow down. If not having a license didn’t stop him before, it probably won’t stop him in the future.
