The current generation of Audi A3 was introduced in 2020 based on the MQB architecture and received a mid-term update in 2024. This means that the (unnamed) EV (unnamed) can be nicknamed A2 E-Tron or A3 E-Tron and will be a standalone product instead of being sold with the A3 instead of replacing the A3.
The timing of the compact Audi launch led us to believe it will ride on the existing MEB architecture, which has been used by the Audi Q4 E-Tron and the entire Volkswagen ID family. The new EV-type SSP platform is expected to arrive in 2028 or 2029, supporting future electric iterations of the Volkswagen Golf MK9 and the Volkswagen T-Roc, Skoda Octavia and Cupra Leon.
The new Audi may be in the body style of a five-door hatchback, which is more popular in Europe than a four-door sedan. Of course, no one can rule out the possibility of a small crossover, similar to the A3 Allstreet. In any case, the EV may inherit the latest styling language of the Ingolstadt brand and combine high-tech features in cabin and competitive range numbers.

If this turns out to be the case, it will cost more than Volkswagen below €25,000, which is in line with the position of the Audi brand in the Volkswagen Group in the Audi Group.
In addition to the upcoming A3-sized electric car, Audi’s CEO also revealed that the company will launch a new model in China in April this year that will be developed locally with the help of SAIC.
