On October 10, 2024, the federal government launched Treasury Laws Amendment (Mergers and Acquisitions Reform) Bill 2024 (“bill“) to Parliament. The bill would amend Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (“CCA“) Implement a mandatory and moratorium merger control regime to replace the previous voluntary regime.
The Bill, which follows extensive public consultation, makes a number of important changes to proposals put forward in an earlier exposure draft. In this newsletter, we step through the key elements of the bill and the changes made to the previous exposure draft.
