Armory STL closes due to financial difficulties – MEET (Conference |
The future of STL, the Armory, an entertainment venue in downtown St. Louis, is uncertain. On Wednesday, Armory STL announced it was closing "temporarily" due to financial difficulties. The announcement was made via a press release shared on the venue's Facebook page, but did not specify when the venue would reopen. The closing marks another setback for Armory developer Green Street St. Louis, which has faced mounting financial and legal problems of late. St. Louis, home to the historic 1938 Missouri National Guard Armory Building on Green Street, launched the Armory STL in December 2022. The armory ended up being a scaled-down project compared to the original vision. Green Street initially proposed an $83 million restoration to convert the building into office and commercial space, resulting in an $8 million tax increment financing package and 15 years of tax abatements. However, by 2020, Green Street had different plans to turn the building into an entertainment venue. Billed as "STL's largest…

Kansas offers unique attractions outside of "Missouri" By Bill Clevlen Since I cover travel and tourism, I've heard people say there's nothing fun in Kansas. So I decided to spend a few weeks exploring Kansas, trying to find small towns, fun attractions, places to eat, and things to do to make your next corporate event special. It turns out that even the eternal optimist in me wasn’t quite prepared for what I discovered simply by taking a detour down the interstate. Here are eight places in Kansas to consider on your next road trip out west or business gathering. Leavenworth Start your trip by visiting the Kansas Country Store and sampling delicious homemade fudge. Head to historic Fort Leavenworth and visit some of the museums and sculptures on the base. Admire stunning old mansions on Broadway, take a quick spin on a century-old carousel at the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, and tour the house where restaurant pioneer Fred…

Financial planners may give up – MEET
Contractual benefits cost the hotel $0 go through Jaelyn Fisher Ask anyone working in meetings and events how they’re currently feeling about the pandemic and its impact on the entire hospitality industry, and you’ll likely hear that these four years have been both the longest four years and the fastest four years—and the effects are still being felt today. While much of the pre-pandemic advice regarding procurement and contracting meetings and events still applies, the current situation demonstrates that the market has shifted from a buyer’s market to a seller’s market, forcing buyers to become more creative and flexible in their procurement and contracting processes. As a planner, you want to ensure that you demonstrate to stakeholders the value your conference or event brings to the end user in order to maintain the longevity of your event. Additionally, if you are a third-party planner or agency, it is even more important to demonstrate the value you bring in…
Winery Destinations Across the State – Meet (Conference |
By Rebekah Icenesse Head into the fall with a trip to Missouri to explore meeting destinations that are both beautiful and delicious. There’s no better place to relax than at a winery, where you can wine and dine with your companions. The following destinations offer plenty of opportunities to add charm and elegance to your next meeting or event. Augusta, Missouri Known for its historic town, Augusta is a charming destination. In 1980, the Augusta AVA (American Viticultural Area) was federally recognized as the first wine region in the United States. At Augusta's four wineries, you can taste history with every glass of wine. Mt. Pleasant Estates is Augusta's oldest winery and offers wine lovers a renovated 4,000 square foot tasting room. The Terrace Room can accommodate up to 200 guests and offers stunning views of the Missouri River Valley, while the Crush Room is ideal for intimate gatherings. Located across the street from Mt. Pleasant, Augusta Winery…
I do, we do, you do teaching model – meet (meeting |
Section 2: What we can do for you David Cloete While some events are designed simply to boost morale, most hope to leave participants with new information, behaviors, or both by the end of the event. These goals aren’t too different from a teacher leading a class of students. Everyone must deliver new information, make sure the audience is keeping up, and ultimately walk students out of the class hoping they’ve been together long enough for the information to stick. Clearly, classrooms and event spaces have more in common than meets the eye. Because of this, research-based teaching methods have a lot to offer event planners. Specify a specific teaching mode I do, we do, and you do too Stand out. This model is simple yet powerful, providing teachers (and, incidentally, meeting planners) with a structure and execution framework that begins with “leading instruction and ends with students (or attendees) working independently” (Killian, 2021). The model follows three steps, which…

8 tips for building strong hotel partnerships – MEET
The meetings and events industry will see a huge transformation in 2024. Collaboration between event organizers and hotels is more important than ever, and working effectively with hotels is not only an advantage, but essential to getting the best opportunities and deals. Here are eight key strategies for building strong partnerships with hotels and setting your group up for success: 1. Understand the proportions of rooms and spaces Hotels now use “space optimizers” to ensure meeting rooms are used efficiently, balancing room occupancy and food and beverage (F&B) spend. They want to ensure meeting spaces are used to the maximum extent possible. When submitting an RFP (Request for Proposal), only request the space you truly need, not just the space you wish you had. This can make the difference between getting a bid or being rejected due to a suboptimal room-to-space ratio. 2. Understand the preferred mode at your destination Every destination has dates or times that are suitable…
