AutoHunter Spotlight: 1957 Ford Thunderbird

Featured Automatic Hunteran online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is this restored 1957 Ford Thunderbird. It draws power from a D-code 312ci Y-type V8 engine and transmits it to the rear wheels through a Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Thunderbird Bronze with a manual black cloth convertible top over a Colonial White and Bronze vinyl interior, this T-Bird comes from the selling dealer and comes with a body-color hardtop, vehicle documents, removed parts, and a clear title.

The Thunderbird Bronze exterior features chrome bumpers, a manual black cloth convertible top, rear antenna and rear wheel skirts. During the restoration, the soft top was changed from tan to black and the color of the included removable hardtop was changed from Colonial White to the current Thunderbird Bronze.

Like the body, the 14-inch steel wheels are finished in Thunderbird Bronze, complete with wheel covers, and are wrapped in 205/75 Coker Classic white-rimmed radial tires.

The cabin had more color changes, with the original Colonial White vinyl interior replaced with Colonial White and Bronze vinyl. Also, the original black carpet was replaced with Bronze carpet. Features included manual windows, Master-Guide power steering, tunnel-type automatic transmission, and Town and Country AM radio.

Vehicle information is displayed on the 140 mph speedometer, 5,000 rpm tachometer, and coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. A Stewart Warner gauge mounted below the dash displays water temperature and voltage. The odometer reads 82,692 miles, but the actual mileage of this Thunderbird is unknown.

The front-hinged hood covers a D-code 312ci Y-type V8 rated at 245 horsepower from the factory. It’s equipped with an original-style teapot four-barrel carburetor and is connected to a Ford O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.

Handling hardware includes an independent front suspension and a solid rear axle. Manual drum brakes keep this T-bird from flying off the road. The engine exhausts through a dual exhaust system.

The selling dealer released a video showing a walk around and driving scene of the vehicle.
