This is Autohunter on AMC AMX in 1969. It is offered by a dealer in Ramsey, Minnesota, and the auction will end Tuesday.

The origins can be traced back to the concept car unveiled in 1966, and the AMX name represents the experiment of American cars. The car marks a turnaround for AMC, attracting younger, more performance-oriented audiences, a unique car to say the least.

As a two-seater with a short wheelbase and V8 powerplant, the AMX is positioned in marketing materials, “the first American sports car below $3,500 since 1957.” Some AMC’s magazine ads even portray the car as the spiritual successors of the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Thunderbird. AMC kept its production low, and AMX built only three model years from 1968 to 1970. During this period, approximately 19,000 units were driven.

The 140 mph speedometer and 8,000 RPM tachometer became standard on the 1969 model – once again helping the AMC lean towards the performance side.

Power comes from the manufacturer’s rating of 343CI V8 with 280 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a Shift-Command three-speed automatic transmission. The traction comes from a set of 14-inch wheels wrapped in Lee Radial white letter tires. The equipment list has other fine looks like power front disc brakes and dual exhaust systems.

Thanks to AMX’s power weight advantage, it performed well in the game. In 1968, the modified version of the car exceeded 100 speeds and endurance records. For some, AMX is considered a weaker person in the muscle segment. For many, AMX is the foundation for making custom cars, thanks to the massive support from the aftermarket.

Then what are you waiting for? Place bids and start your muscle car manufacturing. This 1969 AMX auction ended Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11:15 am (PDT).
