AutoHunter Spotlight: 1991 Acura Legend L

When Honda launched the Acura In 1986, they created something the world had never seen before: a truly top-shelf luxury car from Japan. Sure, the Japanese have been building cars like the Monarch and President for years for their home market, but these cars aren’t seen anywhere else in the world and are just single models rather than entire car lines. Acura’s concept proved to be quite successful, and before long you had Toyota launching the Lexus and Nissan launching the Infiniti.

My favorite of all Acura vehicles has always been the Acura Legend Coupe. In fact, my family had one when I was a kid and I remember thinking the build quality was just as good as the BMW 633CSi we had at the time.

Now, this 1991 Acura Legend L is listed on AutoHunter, an auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com.

The Legend is Acura’s top model. Think of it as the company’s version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and you’re on the right track. I remember it reminded me of our BMW 6 Series, and I’m sure that was the point. These cars were extremely well made and were definitely the best cars Honda could make at the time – which should tell you what a great car the Acura Legend was.

The selling dealer describes this Legend as being powered by a C32A 3.2-liter V6 engine mated to a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Finished in Charcoal Granite Metallic and Cream Ivory leather interior, this Acura now comes with service records and a clear title.

The car is said to be 100% in original cosmetic condition, with the paint, exterior trim and interior completely stock.

The Charcoal Granite Metallic paint looks both original and in very good condition. The dealer notes that there are minor surface scratches here and there, but to me, this Legend is probably the best example I’ve seen in years, a true original example of show quality. It rides on the original 16-inch wheels shod with 205/60 General Altimax tires.

Inside the cabin, this car is simply stunning. Most of the legends were actually driven underground. Somehow, this man escaped his fate and became a veritable time capsule. The power-adjustable front seats are covered in original cream ivory leather upholstery that looks new. The same goes for the dashboard, carpets and interior trim. This basically looks like a brand new 1991 Legend.

Under the hood is the original C32A SOHC 24-valve 3.2-liter V6 engine producing 202 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 210 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm. Like the rest of the car, it looks special. It all starts to make sense when you consider that this car has only traveled 82,000 miles from new. Then you look at the service records and you see that this is exactly what it looks like: a true survivor and well-preserved 1991 Acura. New parts include the front axle, rear shock absorbers, timing belt, spark plugs, AC compressor, water pump and drive belts.

If you are looking for a true future collector car that is not only great for display, but a great car to drive and enjoy, then bid on this rare early example of Japanese automotive excellence.

The auction for this 1991 Acura Legend L will end on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 11:30 AM (MST).
