2024 autoX Awards: After launching a range of 450 scooters, Ather launches the Rizta – a versatile electric scooter designed for the whole family. The idea is simple – create an electric scooter that’s feature-rich, roomy and practical. Arthur succeeded in turning this idea into reality.
While I’m not a fan of the Rizta’s design as it looks odd from certain angles, it does have a very long seat – long enough and comfortable enough to accommodate two people and a large bag. If you need more space, there’s a roomy 34-litre compartment underneath – one of the largest in the segment and roomy enough to accommodate a full-size helmet. The 7-inch instrument panel does not support touch, and the UI is simpler than that of the 450X. You can navigate the menus using the joystick, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, we did notice an occasional lag that hurt the experience somewhat.
The Rizta is available in two battery options – 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh, both with the same 5.7bhp motor delivering 22Nm of torque. Although it doesn’t come with the signature Warp mode like other Ather products, the scooter is quite fast in normal use.
On the track, however, it’s surprisingly one of the slower vehicles in our lineup, partly because its top speed is limited to 80 km/h. That said, its suspension is finely tuned to provide a superior ride on the road and absorbs waves and bumps better than many other scooters. It also comes with variable regeneration (Magic Twist) and traction control, the former of which is actually quite useful and works brilliantly.

That said, we did notice a slight drop in overall quality on the Rizta compared to other Ather models – nothing alarming, but still a drop off. Finally, opting for a bigger battery and all the bells and whistles brings the price closer to a 200cc motorcycle, which naturally reduces its value for money.
