2024 autoX Awards: The launch of BMW’s new 5 Series has had a considerable impact, especially in terms of pricing. On paper, it offers great value for money and offers more space than ever as it is the largest 5 Series model in the Indian market. This is due to BMW launching the new-generation 5 Series long-wheelbase version in India, making India the second country in the world to obtain this model after China. To give you an idea of ​​how big of a difference that is, at least at first glance, the new 5 Series looks almost as big, if not bigger, than the older generation 7 Series.

After driving it thoroughly in Delhi earlier this year and later pushing it to its limits on the track, I can confidently say that the new-generation 5 Series marks a shift in BMW’s approach. It arguably places as much, if not more, emphasis on rear-seat comfort, but that comes at a slight compromise in terms of driving. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a pretty fast car in terms of speed; it’s just that long-time BMW purists may not find it fun to drive.

However, the average driver will find the beautiful new interior impressive with its top-notch materials and attention to detail. The 7 Series-inspired cabin is a welcome addition, and the car’s increased size means there’s what feels like acres of space inside. Perhaps the only point of contention is the design. The increase in size seems to have ruined the proportions, with the 18-inch wheels appearing too small, affecting its score in the design category and thus the all-important X-factor. But in other respects, it’s nearly perfect.
