autoX Awards 2024: BMW CE 04 Performance, Quality and Value

2024 autoX Awards: Whether we like it or not, the future is moving toward electrification. There’s no better proof of this than the launch of a cosmetic scooter from BMW worth over Rs 15 lakh – say hello to the CE 04!

That’s what makes it more interesting. It’s powered by an electric motor from the X3 xDrive30e plug-in hybrid, producing 42 hp and 62 Nm of torque. Unlike most scooters, BMW mounts the motor directly to the chassis, ensuring a more stable and lightweight ride. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a toothed belt transmission. Despite weighing over 226 kg, the CE 04 is still easy to control. Its wheelbase is only 50mm shorter than the R18 – it has the longest wheelbase of any production motorcycle – which contributes to its impressive road stability.

While its top speed of 120 km/h may not be impressive on a track, it accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in just 2.6 seconds. No wonder this is the only scooter to score points in a single lap time. BMW has equipped the CE 04 with four driving modes. If you are looking for peak excitement, Dynamic mode is where the real excitement comes from, providing powerful acceleration and an engaging driving experience.

The large 10.2-inch TFT display adopts the familiar BMW Motorrad layout, which is easy to use and looks cool. There’s a convenient rotary dial control on the left switch box and a mode selector button on the right.

The CE 04 is not your average scooter that focuses on comfort and convenience. Let’s not forget its price, which is surprisingly close to what you’d pay for a superbike. That being said, the CE 04 undeniably stands out with its futuristic, eye-catching design, but getting a glimpse of it might be difficult given its blistering acceleration.
