2024 autoX Awards: It’s certainly not a revelation that Italians know style. It’s no surprise that Maserati embodies this. This is a compact SUV that’s stylish inside and out, and it shows. After all, the trident on the hood adorns some of the most stylish machines ever built.

However, the company finds itself in a very competitive space. And, with a price tag of Rs 13 crore, it certainly doesn’t do itself any favors. In fact, it comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Yes, it produces 325 hp, and, yes, it actually drives very well, but there’s no getting away from the fact that you’re paying close to 5 crore rupees for a car with four-wheel drive on the road. Forget about that for a moment, though, if you want a unique and stylish SUV that’s both visually appealing and fun to drive, then you can revel in a very sporty SUV – one that’s spirited and fits the bill perfectly . Think about it this way, and it actually makes sense. Especially when you consider that the cabin is covered in large swaths of Italian leather, and the technology is actually pretty good too thanks to lots of touchscreens.

Start pushing it on track and it won’t fall apart. Instead, the engine has some grunt, the chassis is sporty and the adaptive dampers mean it not only has plenty of grip, but also plenty of versatility in terms of ride comfort. The biggest problem on the track is the speed warning that appears at 80 km/h and 120 km/h, taking up the entire tachometer. So if you’re trying to shift manually by monitoring the revs with perfectly positioned, appropriately sized shift paddles, you’re going to have to think again.

Beyond that, this is a car that looks and feels exotic. But shame on the price. Well, unless you’re willing to pay the price for exclusivity. If so, you won’t be disappointed.
