2024 autoX Awards: The 2024 TVS Apache RR 310 is one of the few motorcycles in this year’s jury that is designed for track performance. It finds itself in an impressive company that includes the likes of the Aprilia RS 457 and the mighty Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R. Since its launch in 2018, the Apache RR 310 has been leading the trend in bringing affordable super sports bikes to the Indian market. TVS has continuously refined this model to provide the ultimate value for money performance machine. For 2024, the RR 310 will receive subtle styling, mechanical and electronic upgrades. So, can it satisfy your performance cravings?

Apart from the styling upgrades, the change that directly affects its performance is the addition of winglets, which according to TVS can generate 3kg of additional downforce to improve traction. Apart from this, the Apache RR 310 now comes with a comprehensive electronics package, similar to the RTR 310 package. It also gets racing-tuned dynamic stability control via a 6-axis IMU, bringing features like cruise control, cornering ABS, cornering traction control, wheelie control and rear wheel liftoff control. Under the cowling, it features an updated 312cc single-cylinder engine that delivers 38bhp and 29Nm of peak torque. While the changes are progressive, they result in slightly more tractable performance throughout the rev range. For a 300cc single-cylinder engine, the Apache is quite active on a track as big as BIC.

However, it was the bike’s handling that really impressed the jury members. As mentioned, the new Dynamic Package adds adjustable suspension. Even when pushed to its limits or subjected to sudden body movements, the Apache remains light, predictable and agile. While a high-capacity motorcycle with premium suspension components might be faster in a controlled track environment, the Apache does a great job of balancing track capability with real-world usability. It delivers power and handling suitable for city streets, making for an exciting but less intimidating experience than more powerful machines.

However, while the RR 310 feels like a real improvement over its predecessor, the emergence of machines like the RS 457 and ZX-6R ensures it misses the chance to be the best machine of 2024.
