- The Avatr 06 debuts in China, becoming one of the Tesla Model 3’s growing rivals.
- The sedan is expected to be available in EV and EREV powertrain options.
- Avatr is a Chinese brand backed by Changan and CATL and uses Huawei technology.
China’s expanding electric vehicle market has welcomed yet another new entrant with the launch of Avatr’s fourth mass-produced model, the Avatr 06 sedan, which serves as the entry point for the brand’s product line. Closely related to the Avatr 07 SUV launched earlier this year, the low-slung sedan combines Changan underpinnings, CATL batteries and Huawei technology.

At first glance, the sedan looks like a smaller version of the Avatr 12 Gran Coupe. However, a closer look reveals more traditional proportions and subtle evolutions of the brand’s signature styling cues. These include slim, split-design LED headlights, a cleaner front bumper and smoother surfaces along the contours.

The 06 sedan is also equipped with a suite of advanced sensors as part of Huawei’s Qiankun ADAS system, including roof-mounted lidar. The side mirrors have been replaced by cameras, a design choice that is said to eliminate the need for a rear window – a trend that is gaining traction but remains hard to swallow. A third brake light at the rear is integrated into the sloping roofline, as is a discreet spoiler mounted on the tailgate.

The Avatr 06 is 4,855 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, 1,450 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,940 mm. That makes it 30 mm (1.2 inches) longer than the closely related Avatr 07 crossover and 135 mm (5.3 inches) longer than a Tesla Model 3.

While Avatr has yet to reveal the 06’s interior, it’s expected to follow in the footsteps of its higher-end brethren with a futuristic cockpit that includes a large digital screen running Huawei’s Harmony OS and other high-tech features.
The 2006 sedan shares the same CHN platform as the rest of the Avatr range. While the company hasn’t released full specs yet, it’s a safe bet that the 2006 model will mimic the 2007 SUV’s powertrain options. Expected models include rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) electric versions. RWD models are likely to produce 338 hp (252 kW), while AWD models should produce around 590 hp (440 kW). Both are powered by an 82 kWh battery pack.
There will also be an EREV (extended range electric vehicle) version, combining a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with a 39 kWh battery and offering the option of one or two electric motors.
The Avatr 06 is set to launch in China in early 2025, and the automaker hopes it will boost sales, especially in China’s fiercely competitive EV market where the larger Avatr 11 and 12 models failed to meet initial targets. Avatr is headquartered in Chongqing, with a development center in Shanghai and a design center in Munich, Germany.
