Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, also known as Yizhuang Development Zone, is located near Yizhuang District, Daxing District, Beijing. It is one of China’s national economic and technological development zones and a similar township-level unit under the jurisdiction of Daxing District.
Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone is located in the southeast of Beijing, east of the Liangshui River and outside the Fifth Ring Road of Yizhuang City. Preparations were approved on August 15, 1991, and construction began the following year. In 1994, the State Council officially approved it as a national development zone. In August 2002, the State Council approved the expansion of the development zone, increasing the overall planned area of the development zone to 46.8 square kilometers. It extends east of the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Expressway and west of the Beijing-Tianjin New Expressway.
As of July 2002, 1,055 companies from 35 countries had set up operations in the zone, with a total investment of about US$4 billion. 40 of the world’s top 500 companies have factories in the park.
