Bentley confirms new PHEVS is profitable investment

Aircraft and Continental GT lineups are scheduled to grow later this year

Bentley confirms new PHEVS is profitable investment
  • Bentley is preparing to launch the “low-power derivative” of the New World GT.
  • The current model has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that produces 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.
  • Revenue and operating profits took a huge hit in 2024, with sales down 21.5%.

2024 saw a year of change at Bentley as the company bid farewell to its iconic W12 engine, which debuted on the first-generation Continental GT. The model helped re-launch the luxury brand and also entered its fourth generation last year.

As part of the redesign, Bente replaced the W12 with a new plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, an electric motor and a 25.9 kWh battery pack. This gives the combined output of speed and mulliner variants of torque of 771 hp (575 kW/782 ps) and 738 lb-ft (1,000 nm).

These are impressive numbers, but at the speed price of $306,250, Mulliner climbed to $330,950. This is expensive, but Bentley suggests that a more affordable variant is coming soon.

Although the company is clutched in details, they confirmed the “low-power derivative” of flight stimulation, and the Continental GT will arrive in 2025. At this point, little is known about them, but it sounds like they will use a disproportionate version of the plug-in plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Speaking of future models, Bentley has begun turning its oldest building in its Pyms Lane factory into an electric vehicle assembly line of the future. The electric vehicle is scheduled to launch in 2027, and the company has previously described it as “the world’s first truly luxury urban SUV.”

Crossovers are part of the company’s over 100+ plans that require automakers to power by 2035. The date has been delayed once, but we can expect “new hybrid or electric models every year for the next decade”.

While Bentley is looking to the future, revenues in 2024 fell to 10% to €2.6 (£28/£222 million). Their operating profit also plummeted 37% to €373 ($406/3.13).

Despite the disappointing results, Bentley said 70% of customers chose the Mulliner customization option. The company now earns the highest revenue per car ever due to the demand for personalization. But when global sales fell 21.5% to 10,600 units, that didn’t help much.

“Our transformation was a milestone year when we prepared for the electric future last year. We are investing at levels that Bentley has never seen before, as we have not only revolutionized our product cycle plans, but also changed the 85-year-old current site, changing the foundations of our long-term sustainability and success for new electrification.” Walliser went on to say that 2025 seems challenging due to “hard global market conditions and maintaining a volatile political and economic environment.” ”
