BYD plans to build production facilities in Hyderabad, Telangana, with investment of Rs 85,000 crore

India’s environmentally friendly mobility space is attracting serious global attention, and even the well-known figures in the industry are eager to hand over their own market to ours. While Tesla is still weighing its official launch options, Byd, the world’s largest electric car mark, has planted its roots, with its portfolio containing the Sealion 7, Emax 7 and Atto 3.

Now, the company’s efforts seem to double as reports say Chinese brands plan to build production facilities in Telangana Hyderabad. If it moves forward, this could further consolidate Byd’s presence in the country, making it a stronger player in the Indian electric vehicle landscape, allowing companies to launch EVs at a lower price.

BYD is reportedly investing heavily in Hyderabad Rs 850,000 crore (USD 10 billion) to build a base dedicated to electric vehicles. The company has been actively exploring land options in Telangana, and the report shows that Hyderabad can be the preferred location with the proposed unit covering more than 500 acres.

This may be due to the fact that the state is encouraging adoption of electric vehicles. The Telangana government has introduced a progressive electric vehicle policy that provides significant incentives including a complete exemption of road taxes and registration fees for all categories of electric vehicles until the end of 2026.

The upcoming production units will have the ability to produce up to 600,000 vehicles per year by 2032. In addition, BYD plans to establish a battery manufacturing plant with a capacity of 20 GWH. This large-scale manufacturing setup could allow companies to reduce production costs, thus making their electric vehicles more competitive.
