BMW CE 02 electric scooter launched in India, priced at Rs 4.50 lakh

BMW Motorrad has finally launched the all-new CE 02 in India. The model is positioned below the recently launched CE 04 and is priced at Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). With its futuristic looks, innovative features and long-lasting battery, the CE 02 will be a major contender in the growing electric vehicle industry. The scooter is produced in collaboration with TVS’ manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. With this model, BMW aims to increase its appeal to riders looking for a practical solution for urban commuting. Pre-orders for the new CE 02 are currently in progress. Interested buyers can reserve the vehicle through their nearest authorized BMW Motorrad dealer.

BMW CE 02: Design

The BMW CE 02 is smaller than the CE 04 and its design combines elements of a scooter and a motorcycle. Its minimalist style is characterized by a limited number of body panels, resulting in ample open space. The modern look is further enhanced by flat seats and a particularly robust headlight design. The electric scooter comes in two color schemes – Cosmic Black and Cosmic Black 2.

Talking about the available trims, there are two options with the Highline package being the premium package. Standard model includes LED lighting, USB Type-C charging port, two riding modes (Flow and Surf) as well as single-channel ABS, stability control, reverse mode, keyless operation, anti-theft alarm and 3.5-inch display Micro TFT display . The Highline package adds a ride mode called Flash, contrasting tape, a gold anodized fork, a tri-color seat and heated grips. It also offers a smartphone holder and Bluetooth connectivity.

BMW CE 02: Mechanical Setup

The new BMW CE 02 uses an air-cooled current excitation synchronous motor, powered by two air-cooled lithium-ion batteries with a voltage of 48V and a combined energy of 3.9kWh. This model has a maximum power of 15bhp and a peak torque of 55Nm. With its dual-battery setup, the CE 02 is said to offer a range of 108 km (as per ICAT) and a top speed of 95 km/h. The scooter has a seat height of 745 mm and a weight of 142 kg. The 0-50km/h acceleration time is 3 seconds. Charging from 0% to 100% takes 5 hours and 12 minutes using a standard 0.9 kW charger. Charging just got faster, with a 1.5 kW fast charger included in the Highline kit or available as an add-on, which can charge 20%-80% SoC in just 102 minutes.

BMW CE 02: Hardware components

In terms of hardware, the CE 02 is based on a double-ring steel frame with a USD fork at the front and a single shock absorber at the rear for suspension. It has a 239 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc to handle braking duties. Additionally, the scooter comes with 14-inch alloy wheels with 120/80 section tires at the front and 150/70 section tires at the rear.

In the international market, the price of the electric scooter starts from $7,599 (approximately Rs. 6.36 lakh) and goes all the way up to $8,474 (approximately Rs. 7.10 lakh).
